STEP 1) Sift 2 g matcha tea into your tea bowl.
STEP 2) Pour 75 ml (2.54 fl oz) 85℃ (185°F) water over the matcha powder.
STEP 3) Whisk with a chasen (tea whisk) until foamy.
❖ Before Step 1, Warm your tea bowl. Pour hot water in it, then discard all the water and wipe the bowl dry with a cloth. During whisking, a cold tea bowl might cool the water down too quickly, which could turn the matcha bitter.
❖ Sift your matcha powder. Matcha clots easily in hot water. To prevent this, sift the powder through a fine strainer.
When your matcha is ready, drink it immediately because as it cools down it might turn bitter.
❖ Matcha is best fresh. Consume it within a month after opening.
❖ Try experimenting to find your preferred way of enjoying this matcha.
❖ Try the matcha following the maker’s recommended preparation method. Refer to the guidelines provided in the packaging.
FUGETSU RESIN WHISK
Cleaning
- Before cleaning, disassemble the parts, and wash them separately with water.
- After washing, let the parts dry, assemble them again, and place them back on the holder.
- Rinse after every use to avoid stains.
Storing
- After use, store the whisk on the whisk stand to help keep its shape.
- Do not use it in boiling water. In too hot water, the tines might bend.
- Keep it away from children.
- Do not expose to open fire. Do not use it in the oven or microwave.
- Over time, the tips of the tines might get worn out. At this point, it is better to purchase a new one.
CHAWAN
Initiation
Initiate the tea bowl first! Let the bowl sit wholly immersed in cold or lukewarm water for a couple of minutes and then let it dry naturally. Matcha patina is natural for white clay, but by initiating the bowl properly, it will develop slower.
Cleaning
After using the tea bowl, rinse it with water. It is better to avoid dishwashing liquid, but you can use gentle, organic soap to clean your bowl. Never use bleach!
Avoid using a dishwasher or dryer!
Avoid placing it on hot surfaces like a stove, and never put it in the microwave or oven.
Only prepare matcha tea in it.

This starter set is such good value for money and is perfect as you are introduced to the world of matcha. The 50g of Matcha Daigyoku they supply you with is very forgiving, even if you don't have a temperature controlled kettle. The whisk is great to use for a couple of weeks while you learn the whisking methods. If you try whisking matcha with a bamboo chasen for the first time, you will likely be clumsy and break one of the prongs or apply too much pressure to the bottom of the cup - a lot can go wrong! However, the bamboo chasen are still far superior to the one in this set and I highly recommend you buy a proper chasen as soon as possible. The Olive green tea bowl is beautiful to drink from and display!

I wanted to spread the love through matcha, and originally I was going to assemble my own set that has a bowl, a measuring spoon and not a chashuka, a sieve, a chasen, a chasen holder, and a small measuring cup. This set has almost everything I want and is beautifully wrapped and presented! I also got a mini measuring cup (https://www.oxo.com/categories/cooking-and-baking/food-prep-tools/measuring-scales/mini-squeeze-pour-silicone-measuring-cup-466.html) which fits inside the gift box perfectly!
