Spring Matcha by Marukyu-Koyamaen
SPRING COLLECTION
Marukyu Koyamaen limited edition seasonal matcha
Haru Kasumi is a sweet, creamy, fresh and flowery, smooth and light Matcha tea with a lush milky aftertaste. By using less water, we can make a round-bodied, light, and tasty Koicha tea. This tea tolerates varying water temperatures very well; it does not get bitter even at lower temperatures.

HOW TO PREPARE
As Usucha:
STEP 1) Put 2g (0.4 US tsp, 1 teaspoon or 2 chashaku scoop) matcha powder into a suitable tea bowl.
STEP 2) Pour 75 ml (2.4 fl oz) 80℃ (176°F) water over the matcha powder.
STEP 3) Whisk with a chasen (tea whisk) until foamy.
As Koicha:
STEP 1) Put 4g (0.8 US tsp, 2 teaspoon or 4 chashaku scoop) matcha powder into a suitable tea bowl.
STEP 2) Pour 30 ml (1 fl oz) 80℃ (176°F) water over the matcha powder.
STEP 3) Gently mix with a chasen (tea whisk) until creamy.
❖ Before Step 1, warm up the tea bowl with hot water, then dry it with a cloth to create the perfect temperature so make the most delicious matcha with a fresh scent while preparing. (Optional)
❖ To prevent clotting of the matcha powder, sift it through a fine strainer before use. (Strongly recommended)
❖ After the matcha is done, drink it immediately, because as it cools down it gets more and more bitter. (Recommended)
❖ Freshness is the most important thing for the enjoyment of Matcha. It is best to use up the tea within one month of opening. (Strongly recommended)
EXTRA TIP
❖ Try iced matcha: pour the finished matcha (usucha) over ice.

This stuff is scrumptious, there's no other way around that. It has a dense, lush taste that carries a lot of umami without being overbearing or bitter. It has a slight round dryness that doesn't feel bad in the pallet, but instead balances out a noticeable sweet creaminess this matcha has. Sweet grass and florals are very noticeable in this matcha, and are rounded out with a nice buttery presence in the aftertaste. Drinking it is an experience that is both uplifting & grounding in a very enjoyable way.

This one is very mellow and pleasant; truly like Spring on your palate. At this price point it is a steal! I purchased several to stock up in my fridge.

Super spring-like. As soon as you open the package, you will be blown away by the smell of the sweetness of spring, it literally smells like a field full of flowers. Taste is smooth and has a delicate taste, definitely make sure not the burn this matcha with too-hot of water. I ordered this last year and I impend to order it again next year, great way to start off the beautiful season of spring.

Harukasumi truly encapsulates its name: “Spring Mist”. The aroma strongly reminds me of the scent of fresh young blades of grass showered with the first rains of April. The moment water makes contact with this verdant green powder there is a powerful wave that my nose reads as oceanic kelp, with the ever so slightest hint of Sakura blossoms. The taste is one of the most thought provoking matcha flavor profiles that I have encountered. There is an ever-present unmistakable umami throughout each sip that translates as savory nori, with a strong yet pleasant vegetal aftertaste that is reminiscent of tangy fresh tomatoes. This offering from Marukyu Koyamaen perfectly captures the tranquil and vivacious essence of Spring.

Very interesting blend of deep savory notes and smooth tart mouthfeel with well-round finish. I prefer usucha with this tea but koicha is indeed great. The only concern is this character might not be distinctive enough for the one who seek extreme savory from matcha, it's great for honing sense of tastings in mindfulness manner though.

Fantastic intense aroma and color. But then it surprises you with its mellow flavor, no bitterness whatsoever. I actually prefer it as koicha.

Very tasty and refreshing as both usucha and koicha!

What an incredible, creamy, delicious matcha. I was debating several kinds of matcha for my first order from Sazen, and luckily placed my order with this in my cart just before stock ran out in spring 2020. This is so smooth and well balanced, I only wish I had ordered multiple. It’s amazing how you can taste the seasonality in different crops from tea to wheat, and this absolutely tastes like spring. I guess I’ll have to wait til next year, ration this (even if it’s difficult!) and will enjoy my others in the meantime m.

This is a great seasonal one, super fresh and intriguing taste. I would compare it to the Tsubokiri in terms of value, will buy this too whenever it's available.

Very mild and pleasant. I usually prefer matcha with more character but will definitely buy this once a year as a spring treat.

This is the best of all the seasonal matcha. It has the most lovely scent and is so mellow. There is absolutely no bitterness. Even though the box labels it as an usucha, I tried it as koicha as well and was pleasantly surprised with how good it was.

Very light and mellow flavor. Almost too delicate. I enjoyed it as usucha (thin tea) paired with a traditional sweet called "ohka shigure" and it was delicious. Not tannic/bitter at all and it has a smooth almost buttery throat feel. Highly recommended.
