Tai Ping Hou Kui

2024 Special Grade from Anhui Province, China

Tai Ping Hou Kui Tai Ping Hou Kui Tai Ping Hou Kui Tai Ping Hou Kui Tai Ping Hou Kui Tai Ping Hou Kui Tai Ping Hou Kui

Tai Ping Hou Kui, this unique tea with its beautiful, long, lush green leaves, was originally cultivated in three villages only, in Taiping District of Anhui Province. Through time however, as it became more popular for its gentle, caressing aroma, they started growing it in the neighboring areas as well. Today it is mainly cultivated in Huanshang City, Huanshang District in Anhui Province.

Tea picking starts during Rainy Season and lasts until the beginning of Summer. This particular Tai Ping tea was harvested at the beginning of April, and it is especially high quality. The cultivar used is the locally grown Si Da Cha, the best type for Tai Ping Hou Kui. This tea is pan-fried and dried on ember.

The tea's flat, straight, strong leaves, lush-green color, and charismatic scent resembling the fresh fragrance of orchid flowers are all indicators of the tea's high quality. It is sweet, with light almond and pine seed notes. The refreshing verdant notes in the aftertaste leave a fresh, clean mouthfeel.

As the leaves are large, we recommend using a glass teapot or cup to enjoy not only its luxurious taste but also its standalone beauty.

STEP 1) Warm your teapot. Pour boiling water into a gaiwan, teapot, or preferably a long glass, let it sit for a little while, then discard all the water.
STEP 2) Fill your vessel with tea leaves in a 3g/150ml ratio, pour boiling water on them, and brew for 30 seconds.
STEP 3) Serve. Pour the tea into a pitcher, and then into cups. When you pour the tea out, make sure you leave some water (about 20%) in your vessel. This tea won't get bitter, it only gets more flavorful.
STEP 4) Brew again.

❖ This tea is best with 30-seconds infusions.

❖ This is how we recommend brewing this tea, but we all have our preferences, so try experimenting to find the way you like it the most.
