Sohenryu Endorsed Yamamasa Koyamaen Matcha

The Sohen school is a sado school founded by Yamada Sohen(1627-1708). The head family of the school lives in Kamakura of Kanagawa Prefecture today. Sohen was a son of the Chotokuji temple in Kyoto but took a fancy for sado from his early childhood. When he was 18 years old, he became an apprentice with Sen Sotan, the grandson of Rikyu. In 1655, he inherited the esoteric art of tea ceremony from Sotan and built a tea-room, named Shiho-an after his sado pseudonym, at Sanpoji temple in Kyoto. After serving a vassal lord for 40 years, he moved to Tokyo in 1697 and founded his own school of sado, the Sohen school.
