Tea stems blended with tasteful green tea from Kyoto, Japan
Green tea of Uji tea fields.
Gyokuro Karigane tea is made of premium tea leaves and tea stems that are grown on shaded tea bushes. Thanks to this process the tea has slightly creamy taste with mild bitterness and a pleasant sweet aftertaste. It contains more vitamin C than other types of green tea because of tea stems blending.

Very sweet, fresh and silky smooth with a tiny bit of citrus aftertaste. I can’t recall that I’ve ever tried single origin Ujimidori, so not sure if that’s the cultivar characteristics, but the balance of sweetness and freshness make this Karigane a very nice tea. The second steep is more creamy and from there, the grassy and citrus taste starts to evolve. Despite Karigane is a byproduct, I really love that the experience is similar for a Gyokuro, while the price stays affordable. The fourth steep is still enjoyable.

I like my tea strong, so I went with slightly less water. It's an okay pick with a fresh, buttery, sweet umami nose. Not the best color, but it's acceptable for me. On the palate, its sweet, buttery umami flavors with a smooth and rounded licorice high note with a lingering finish. There were hints of fresh vegetal and earthy mineral flavors lingering as well. Remember, I steeped with less water. The "Ohmi Gyokuro" scores higher on my scale but so does its cost. Happy drinking =)

I had never tried Gyokuro tea before, so I was a little apprehensive. But this was incredible. Followed instructions on the packaging, and it came out perfectly. Very flavourful.
