The birth of a new tea cultivar:
About 30 years ago in an ordinary tea plantation in Shizuoka, one tea bush mutated, and its leaves, instead of lush green, turned to bright gold. Sato Hiromitsu, the owner of the plantation saw the unique chance and decided to cultivate more from the new-found golden leaf tree. He noticed that the more the leaves are exposed to the Sun, the brighter gold they turn. He named the new cultivar "Kogane Midori", "golden green", and cultivated that one little tea bush into an entire plantation. What we see now deep in the mountains of Shizuoka, an entire plantation shining in sunshine gold, is the result of his 30 years of special care and hard work.

The benefits of Kogane Midori:
Kogane Midori's leaves are not only rare and beautiful but also contain more amino acids than regular green tea cultivars. Unlike most Japanese green teas that go a maximum of 2-3 steeps, Kogane Midori Gabaroncha is exceptionally lasting and can go up to 4.

Unique cultivar, unique processing:
After picking, the tea leaves are immediately vacuum sealed and kept in the vacuum packaging for a few hours. The anaerobic - oxygen-free - conditions turn the glutamic acid in the tea leaves into GABA. After the leaves are taken out from the vacuum packaging, they are wok-fried, rolled, and then wok-fried again. GABA (γ-aminobutyric acid) is an amino acid and a major neurotransmitter of the human central nervous system. Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) could act as a blood pressure controller. Its daily consumption might help burn fat and have a beneficial effect on blood pressure or stress issues.

Taste notes:
Kogane Midori Gabaroncha is unlike any other Japanese green tea. If you have a taste for distinctive teas with a delightful blend of sweetness and piquancy, this one will definitely become one of your favorites. The first and most distinguishable aromas, the milky cocoa and the mildly toasty cereal notes, make a charismatic but well-balanced flavor. The tea is gentle on the tongue, but the aftertaste intensifies quickly. The tender notes turn into a delicious fusion of coffee beans, roasted chestnuts, and hazelnuts. Pungent and slightly salty, the aftertaste is robust but still leaves you with a refreshed and clean mouthfeel. From the second infusion onward, the green tea features come forward and the tea gets a citrusy and verdant edge.
Kogane Midori Gabaroncha is unusually lasting and goes as many as 4-5 steeps.

We offer two other amazing teas from this special Kogane Midori cultivar: Sencha Kogane Midori and Kogane Midori Hōjicha.

delicious and unique tea, It has quickly become a favourite. It takes you into a relaxed and focused state, and is a perfect pairing for getting in touch with your creative side, or for contemplative moments. The taste is a lot like roasted cashews and dried fruits, with some biscuits.
