Automatic matcha mixer
(!) UPDATED version. Now with Chasen Kazuho bamboo whisk.
Matcha is the best when creamy and foamy. For those who want their matcha tea fast and perfectly frothy, there is an easy and modern way: an automatic mixer, the Charaku.
Using Charaku is a convenient way to prepare your everyday matcha tea but also a great help for anyone working in the food industry as it is fast and effective. With Charaku, even unpracticed hands can make the perfect ceremonial usucha (thin tea) in just a few seconds.
The Charaku comes with a bamboo whisk, two AA batteries, a white silicone ring (for the Resin whisk), and 3 rubber rings (to help other whisks fit into the Charaku).
Buy again the Chasen Kazuho here.
The Charaku’s Holder and the Silicone Ring are designed for the included whisk but the Resin Whisk and two other bamboo whisks, the Chasen Hachijuppondate Kubo Sabun and the Chasen Hachijuppondate Kubo Tetsuzo are also suitable for the Charaku. To adjust the size, use the rubber rings (3 pcs) included in the set.
If you prefer to use your Charaku without batteries and would rather connect it to electricity, use AC Adapter.

How to use the Charaku
1. Make sure the Batteries are inserted well / the Adapter is plugged in.
2. Sift the Matcha powder into a tea bowl and pour the water in the bowl. Grab your Charaku but before you switch it on, gently mix the powder with the water moving the whisk in zig-zag pattern.
3. Make sure you have a firm grip on the Charaku, and switch it on. Keep the whisk in a vertical position, and do not press it onto the bottom of the bowl. Your matcha will be ready in several seconds. For thicker foam, whisk for a longer time.
4. When you achieved the required amount of foam, switch the Charaku off, and gently smooth out the bigger bubbles.

Cleaning
After use, dismantle the Charaku. Take out the whisk and wash gently under running water.
The Charaku’s Main Body is not waterproof. Do not wash or soak it in water. Wipe it clean with a dry cloth if necessary.
Caution
With the right angle and amount of water, the Charaku works clean. But it might take a few tries to learn to use it perfectly. For the first few tries, use a higher wall bowl and make sure your clothes are well protected.

Very helpful despite the relatively high price. Wish there would be AC adapter and replaceable Chasen available here.

A wonderful charaku for someone who is unable to whisk matcha well. Beats a metal whisk anytime. It is better than using the Nespresso latte mixer. The matcha turns out foamy without big bubbles. Glad I bought it even though it is so pricey.
