Place of Origin: Kusatsu City, Shiga Pref., Japan

About the Ohmi Tōgei Ceramic Art Studio and Kusatsuyaki:

Ohmi Tōgei Ceramic Art Studio sits within the serene woodlands of Kusatsu city, Shiga Prefecture, a land that has provided high-quality clay and hosted several ceramic kilns since the 7th century. With a three-decade legacy, the studio has evolved into a distinguished kiln, pioneering its own distinctive style known as Kusatsuyaki. In the vicinity of the kiln, numerous ceramics dating back to various historical periods have been discovered, shaping the philosophy of the studio. Kusatsuyaki artworks are all a statement. As their artists say:

"Clay pottery fired in a kiln maintains its integrity over time, ensuring its preservation for future generations to inherit. We perceive our ongoing presence as a commitment to environmental stewardship. While clay can be reshaped over and over again as needed, once it undergoes firing, it irreversibly loses its original form. Embracing sustainability, we meticulously craft each piece by hand, utilizing limited resources with care and dedication, day after day."

Handling precautions

Initiation:
Before first use, rinse it with hot water and wash it with natural soap then let it dry completely.

Usage:
Avoid placing it on hot surfaces, like stove, and never use it in microwave or oven.

Cleaning:
Tea stain is the natural part of a teapot's "maturing process", but if you prefer to avoid it, rinse the teapot well after every use, do not let the tea leaves sit in it for too long. It is better to avoid dishwashing liquid, but you can use gentle, organic soap to clean your pot. Never use bleach!
Avoid using dishwasher or dryer!

Storage:
After use, always let it dry completely, for if stored away while still wet, it might develop an unpleasant smell or mold.
