High grade matcha suitable for making thick or thin tea
Kinrin is “entry-level” matcha in the Koyamaen koicha tea portfolio: it is the least expensive variety in a line-up suited for making “thick” matcha tea. Preparing the Kinrin as koicha is gateway to the myriad delights of thick tea, albeit in Kinrin matcha still accented by slightly tart notes that disappear in more premium koichas. Preparing Kinrin as usucha, on the other hand, impresses with a soft, creamy, grassy flavors in a league of their own compared with matcha varieties lower down the tea portfolio listing.
Preparing Kinrin calls for great expertise since selecting the wrong water temperature will greatly reduce the enjoyableness of this tea. Heating water to 80 °C is ideal temperature for koicha and usucha teas alike. Once prepared, we should drink our Kinrin matcha immediately as bitter notes develop at lower temperatures!
The meaning of Kinrin "金輪" :
Marukyu Koyamaen received this name from Takada Kōin, the former head priest of Yakushi-ji Temple in Nara. It comes from a phrase in Buddha's 'Kusharishi,' known as '金輪際' ('konrinzai'), which signifies the deepest depths of the earth, representing profound and far-reaching aspects. It contrasts the earthly boundary with the celestial one, represented by '有頂天' ('uchōten').

HOW TO PREPARE
As Usucha:
STEP 1) Put 2g (0.4 US tsp, 1 teaspoon or 2 chashaku scoop) matcha powder into a suitable tea bowl.
STEP 2) Pour 75 ml (2.4 fl oz) 80℃ (176°F) water over the matcha powder.
STEP 3) Whisk with a chasen (tea whisk) until foamy.
As Koicha:
STEP 1) Put 4g (0.8 US tsp, 2 teaspoon or 4 chashaku scoop) matcha powder into a suitable tea bowl.
STEP 2) Pour 30 ml (1 fl oz) 80℃ (176°F) water over the matcha powder.
STEP 3) Gently mix with a chasen (tea whisk) until creamy.
❖ Before Step 1, warm up the tea bowl with hot water, then dry it with a cloth to create the perfect temperature so make the most delicious matcha with a fresh scent while preparing. (Optional)
❖ To prevent clotting of the matcha powder, sift it through a fine strainer before use. (Strongly recommended)
❖ After the matcha is done, drink it immediately, because as it cools down it gets more and more bitter. (Recommended)
❖ Freshness is the most important thing for the enjoyment of Matcha. It is best to use up the tea within one month of opening. (Strongly recommended)

This matcha has a nice strong grassy flavor, however I'm not a fan of the bitterness. I do appreciate more delicate flavors, this one wasn't it.

An excellent matcha at a very reasonable price, easily competes with many more expensive ones. It is very smooth and lump-free even this late in the year. Whisks perfectly with hot or cold water. One of the best matcha values out there.

Purchased 6 months ago but just opened, it is still fresh and lump free. This is a very smooth matcha. It whisks perfectly using either hot or cold water. Great in the summer using cold spring water and adding some ice. An excellent value!

When I made it the second through fifth time it was the best matcha I've ever had. But now when I try it it's not as good maybe its my kettle next time I would get a matcha not so dependent on water temp.

This is a wonderful and complex matcha for the price. The powder is very silky and a beautiful deep green. It has a beautiful fragrance and a deep umami. It foams very easily and abundantly. I like my matcha a bit on the stronger side with 70C water and it is one of my favorites as it exhibits no bitterness and a beautiful matcha experience. Kinrin rivals a lot of matcha at higher price points. An excellent value all-around

My favorite matcha from Koyamaen so far. I've tasted plenty of Koyamaen matchas -- both higher grade (Choan) and specials (gabaron, organic kin/gin, kiun) -- and so far this one stands out as my favorite.

Kin sin should be the one very solid choice for great round flavour and smell. I mostly use it for a creamy usucha. It allows froth at lower temperatures.

Kinrin matcha is sold for a ridiculously low price considering the high level of quality. It would still be a good deal at twice the price. It has a very lively, bright green color and is completely lacking in bitterness. I would give it 4 stars when compared to the best matcha I've had which was 5 times the price! When it comes to value for your dollar, this is definitely worthy of 5 stars.

Made as usucha, this matcha has a silky texture, vibrant green color, a good dose of umami sweetness. Highly recommended.

Product Review: An amazing matcha at a great price! The scent from the tin is so magically sweet and creamy. The color is a beautiful vibrant green. I first made it as usucha; there is no noticeable bitterness and a good umami after-taste. I tired it as koicha as well. Results?just as good. Sazen Review: Good customer service! Replied to my email inquiry same day. Received my package in 5 days (3 business days). Overall I would recommend this product and would purchase again from Sazen!
