High grade matcha suitable for making thick tea (koicha)
Competitive Grade Tea.
The Marukyu-Koyamaen tea portfolio’s third-highest grade tea. Its soft, refined, deeply complex flavors call, above all, for preparing koicha. Swallowing your first drop of koicha will instantly trigger its fresh grassy character, soon to give way to an intense, lingering sweet, round, full-bodied flavor, leaving you content, delighted, and happy.
Preparing it as usucha or thin tea it is almost completely free of grassy notes, turning in a rich, milky, sweet, and creamy matcha.
The meaning of Choan "長安" :
This tea's name, handed down in Marukyu Koyamaen since ancient times, was named after Chang'an, the ancient capital of China and the birthplace of Japanese tea. Enjoy its unique flavor and the serene sense of peace you can
savor.

HOW TO PREPARE
As Usucha:
STEP 1) Put 2g (0.4 US tsp, 1 teaspoon or 2 chashaku scoop) matcha powder into a suitable tea bowl.
STEP 2) Pour 75 ml (2.4 fl oz) 80℃ (176°F) water over the matcha powder.
STEP 3) Whisk with a chasen (tea whisk) until foamy.
As Koicha:
STEP 1) Put 4g (0.8 US tsp, 2 teaspoon or 4 chashaku scoop) matcha powder into a suitable tea bowl.
STEP 2) Pour 30 ml (1 fl oz) 80℃ (176°F) water over the matcha powder.
STEP 3) Gently mix with a chasen (tea whisk) until creamy.
❖ Before Step 1, warm up the tea bowl with hot water, then dry it with a cloth to create the perfect temperature so make the most delicious matcha with a fresh scent while preparing. (Optional)
❖ To prevent clotting of the matcha powder, sift it through a fine strainer before use. (Strongly recommended)
❖ After the matcha is done, drink it immediately, because as it cools down it gets more and more bitter. (Recommended)
❖ Freshness is the most important thing for the enjoyment of Matcha. It is best to use up the tea within one month of opening. (Strongly recommended)

Great matcha, lovely colour and presentation. It is more on the subtle area taste wise, this needs higher quantity to satisfy you, so i feel that Eiju is a better deal with slightly more creamy/sweeter taste than Choan, i could be a bit wrong since i had the Eiju 2 years ago. Now don't get me wrong, this Choan is a top notch matcha, just that i feel the special seasonal matchas are a better deal and deliver more character at a much lower price. Will i buy the Choan again ? probably not, but i'm glad i tested it and will enjoy it till the last drop ;-).

This is very smooth and mellow. It doesn't have any taste that stands out in an unpleasant, distracting way. This can easily be anyone's go-to matcha.

While my first and foremost preference when it comes to ceremonial matcha is its natural sweetness, I also genuinely appreciated Choan's unique dynamic flavor profile mixing unmistakable deep umami with subdued notes of sweetness. This matcha elegantly dances between the fine line of subtle savoriness and sweetness. This is definitely a sophisticated and unique ceremonial matcha.

This Matcha is very similar to the Tenju taste & feeling, i'm using this one daily, such a great boost to start my day, very high quality!

I drink this tea as Ususha and I have to say to date I haven’t found anything I enjoy as much as this Choan. Koyamaen in general is above the rest and this is a great product they have. Absolutely no bitterness and it has a lot of umami and smoothness with subtle aromas.

Great koicha, smooth, not too expensive as well.

I wish I could give it more stars. This matcha is so heavenly good. Rich in umami and no bitterness at all. A nice light astringency when made as koicha.

There is something with Koyamaen?s Matcha that, in my opinion, reaches a level others can only aspire to. This is my second Koyamaen?s Matcha (my other being the "Tenju") and again, I am astounded at the quality. The whole experience starts when you peel back the tin lid and inhale the fresh aroma of the tea. The colour is so deep and green, yet light. Preparing and drinking Koicha with this Matcha is spiritually uplifting. The lingering after taste reminds me for a long time, of the wonderful tea I just drank.
