Ceramic tea display tool by Itoh Seiji, Jinshu Kiln
Itoh Seiji's artwork.
Glazed ceramic tea tool to display tea leaves before brewing. It is made of white clay and decorated with a traditional Japanese wave pattern engraved on the inside and a textile print on the outside.
The artist, the Tokoname-based Itoh Seiji is celebrated for his refined and elegant teapots and tea accessories, suitable for both Japanese, Chinese, and Taiwanese tea sessions.
The "chasoku" is used both in Japanese and Chinese tea ceremonies to present and admire the tea leaves before the tea is prepared. In the Chinese tea ceremony, it is placed on or beside the tea tray after use, in the Japanese tea ceremony it is rested on the tea container.
