Yabunouchiryu Endorsed Marukyu Koyamaen Matcha
The Yabunouchi school was founded by Kenchu Jochi (1536-1627). Jochi also learned sado under Rikyu. In contrast to Rikyu, who was given an important post to serve rulers such as Nobunaga and Hideyoshi, Jochi preferred to live quietly in the bamboo forest in the north of Kyoto. Being critical of the frivolous or lavishing style of tea ceremony, Jochi’s style was characterized by his pursuit of the formal elegance of the original tea ceremony.
