Minoyaki Chawan by Miyaji Eiko

Hinamatsuri, also called Girl's Day is one of the five ancient seasonal festivals celebrated in Japan since the early Edo era. When peach trees burst into bloom, it is time to celebrate girls and pray for their happy future. So Japanese families display ornamental dolls ("hina ningyo") dressed in gorgeous kimono on platforms covered with red carpet. Sometimes it is only one platform, sometimes many, the Emperor and the Empress sitting on the top. The full set of hina dolls are representing a traditional Heian era wedding, with musicians, helpers and guests, so owning and seasonally displaying one is believed to bring good luck for daughters.

The bowl comes in a paper gift box.

Handling precautions

Initiate the tea bowl first! Let the bowl sit wholly immersed in cold or lukewarm water for a couple of minutes and then let it dry naturally. Matcha patina is natural for white clay, but by initiating the bowl properly, it will develop slower.

After using the tea bowl, rinse it with water. It is better to avoid dishwashing liquid, but you can use gentle, organic soap to clean your bowl. Never use bleach!
Avoid using a dishwasher or dryer!

Avoid placing it on hot surfaces like a stove, and never put it in the microwave or oven.

Only prepare matcha tea in it.
