Ceramic tea display tool by Itoh Seiji, Jinshu Kiln
Itoh Seiji's artwork.
Glazed ceramic tea tool to display tea leaves before brewing. The sky-blue glaze is a Tokoname specialty, that stands between the usual ceramic glaze and engobe in viscosity. It is decorated with traditional Japanese wave pattern engraved on the inside and textile print on the outside.
The artist, the Tokoname based Itoh Seiji is celebrated for his refined and elegant teapots and tea accessories, suitable for both Japanese, Chinese and Taiwanese tea sessions.
The "chasoku" is used both in Japanese and Chinese tea ceremony to present and admire the tea leaves before the tea is prepared. In Chinese tea ceremony it is placed on or beside the tea tray after use, in Japanese tea ceremony it is rested on the tea container.
