Yamanaka Nuri lacquer product
Yamanaka Nuri lacquer product, Natsume (棗), handcraft Matcha container from Ishikawa prefecture.
This Shikunshi (四君子) natsume is decorated by the Four Gentlemen (plum blossom, orchid, bamboo, and chrysanthemum).
The name of raw material is 木質 (Mokkan or Mokushitsu) which is the mixture of plastic and wooden powder.
The surface is coated by black lacquer.
Natsume is a tea ceremony tool, made to hold the matcha needed for the ceremony. While preparing for the ceremony, the tea master measures the needed amount of matcha powder into the natsume, that was designed especially for this; since it is not for storage but to present the matcha to the guests, it has a loose lid that is easy to remove and is not airtight.
