Handmade and hand-painted matcha tea bowl decorated with bamboo and tiger

The bowl is coated with ash glaze. The splitting of glaze colors is a renown technique called "kakewake", widely used in Japanese pottery. The tiger is one of the twelve Chinese zodiac signs. The year of the tiger brings good opportunities for changes and growth. Tiger stands for courage, power and protection.
Kyo or Kiyomizu pottery is a symbol of Kyoto, and its history has continued for 400 years. To serve the desire of Aristocrats, tea masters and culinary specialists of the era, Kyo or Kiyomizu pottery has incorporated design and artistry not only from Japan but also from China and the Korean Peninsula. To succeed the intricate artwork and craftsmanship, each piece is made and decorated carefully by hand even to this day.
The tea bowl comes in a wooden box (pauwlonia) signed by the artist.
