Entry grade usucha (thin matcha), also perfect for flavoring soft drinks
This product is made of first flush green tea from Uji tea fields by Hekisuien tea manufacturer, Kyoto.
Entry grade matcha for making usucha (thin tea), also perfect for culinary use, especially for making delicious soft drinks such as matcha latte.
Hekisuien, an old tea shop and a proud bastion of Uji-cha tea, has garnered quite the pedigree since being established in 1867. In 1924, it created and sold the world’s first original Genmaicha, "Hanayanagi," earning a prestigious prize from the governor of Kyoto himself. Today that fine tradition continues with a peerless lineup of premium matcha tea products.
"Matcha Chiyo no Sakae" is the most moderately-priced tea for use during tea ceremonies. Rather than using a ball mill pulverizer, which makes much less flavorful tea, Hekisuen uses the same type of stone mill powder grinding device by which macha was first created.
The result is incredibly fine particles of only 5~9 microns, all possessing smoothness, vivid color, and deep flavor. With such painstakingly hard work involved in using a stone mill, only 40g of matcha can be produced per hour.
Most matcha for general cooking purposes never approaches this level of excellence. Just one try of this authentic, high grade cooking matcha will make it impossible to be satisfied with anything else.

As Usucha:
STEP 1) Put 1.5‒2 g (0.4 US tsp, 1 teaspoon or 2 chashaku (tea scoop)) matcha powder into a suitable tea bowl.
STEP 2) Pour 70 ml (2.4 fl oz) 80℃ (176°F) water over the matcha powder.
STEP 3) Whisk with a chasen (tea whisk) until foamy.
❖ Before Step 1, warm up the tea bowl with hot water, then dry it with a cloth to create the perfect temperature so make the most delicious matcha with a fresh scent while preparing. (Optional)
❖ To prevent clotting of the matcha powder, sift it through a fine strainer before use. (Strongly recommended)
❖ After the matcha is done, drink it immediately, because as it cools down it gets more and more bitter. (Recommended)
❖ Freshness is the most important thing for the enjoyment of Matcha. It is best to use up the tea within one month of opening. (Strongly recommended)

This for people that like astringency, it hits very savory with with milk. Still astringent but with a very nice kick and feels complex.

This is my first time trying a high quality culinary grade matcha so I can’t compare it with anything else. Taste: Strong umami flavor and moderate bitterness Color: Green but on the darker spectrum. For a culinary grade, it exceeded my expectations. Texture: Not sure if this is the correct term but there’s this chalky texture I get but It’s not unpleasant to me. I bought this specifically for creating lattes as I’ve been using too much of my ceremonial Matcha to create that strong flavour. Surely, I would buy this again. This Matcha is delicious and very cost efficient. I can’t wait to experiment more recipes with this.

Exceptional quality for its price! I keep coming back to this whenever I'm running out of matcha, even though I have tried many other ceremonial grade matchas from Sazen's wide selection. Despite being classified as culinary grade, Deluxe Chino no Sakae serves well on its own as a pure matcha drink, no sight of bitterness with beautiful foam. To my nose, this matcha smells creamy and rich leaning toward milky notes, which is perfectly suited to latte drinks. I recommended it to every friend asking me which matcha they should buy for long-term use.

Excellent ! Way beyond my expectations for a culinary grade Matcha. I'm having this straight as usucha. This particular beauty will put many others to shame. Superb on its color, scent, foam and texture as of a culinary grade Matcha. You will get some umami sweetness, with a good creamy mouth feel. It has a nice after taste of nutty creaminess with light hints of floral notes. You can definitely take the seller's word for it. Most culinary Matcha will never meet this level of excellence.!!
