Japanese green tea blended with roasted brown rice
Genmaicha is a kind of mixed tea containing around 50% roasted brown rice besides sencha leaves. This type of sencha is harvested in summer and contains coarse large tea leaves. It is a well vitalizing tea with reduced caffeine content. Tea bushes are exposed to direct sunlight therefore the taste is characteristic and refreshing with a very pleasant roasted aroma of brown rice.
During roasting, some of the rice pops, creating "poprice" that look like white flowers in the tea, thus the name "Hanayanagi". The rice does not change the taste of the tea in any way, it only has a decorative function.

Definitely better than the Genmaicha that might be available at an American grocery store. The tea is clearly of a higher quality and the tea has the heartiness and viscosity characteristic of Genmaicha. Nice to drink alongside breakfast or another meal without having to think too much about it, if that makes sense.

Hmmmm. The tea is wonderful: the roundness of the toasted rice, the smoothness of the sencha leaves makes for a delicious brew. I use my Takasuke Shudei Kyusu (Large) for brewing. It makes 2 cups at a time and encourages me to brew the tea multiple times and enjoy the variation and evolution of the taste. The tea remains sharp and the green-gold complexion, even after 5 brews! Instructions are clear and perfect ! Thank you.
