Yamada Yūtaro's artwork.

As is often the case with traditional craftsmanship, the famous pottery town, Tokoname is also facing a rapid decrease in potters. Yamada Yūtaro is one of the most promising artists from the youngest Tokoname ceramist generation. He collects clay himself from the mountains around the town, and does all the processing on his own, making beautiful teapots living up to Tokoname's name.

The pitcher was fired in reduction chamber. The pattern on the surface is achieved with "Mogake technique" developed back in the 19th century. The pot was wrapped with Amamo seaweed, which reacts with the clay and oxidizes during firing. The result is this unique finish, bearing the impression of randomness, which has both aesthetic and philosophical appeal to the Japanese.

Yamada Yūtaro makes every detail with great care, and the result is a precise, alluring and practical pitcher, perfect for Japanese tea.

The pitcher makes a perfect set with Yamada Yūtarō's Kokudei Mogake Shiboridashi.

Handling precautions

Initiation:
Before first use, rinse it with hot water, then let it dry completely!

Usage:
Avoid placing it on hot surfaces, like a stove, and never use in the microwave or oven.

Cleaning:
Tea stain is the natural part of a tea ware's "maturing process", but if you prefer to avoid it, rinse the pitcher well after every use, do not let the tea leaves sit in it for too long. It is better to avoid dishwashing liquid, but you can use gentle, organic soap to clean your pitcher. Never use bleach!
Avoid using dishwasher or dryer!

Storage:
After use, always let it dry completely, for if stored away while still wet, it might develop an unpleasant smell or mold.

Non-glazed ceramic tea ware absorb scents and flavors, so only prepare one class of tea in them (green tea, black tea, roasted tea, etc).
