Handmade and hand-painted ceramic container. Its shape imitates the traditional confection called "omogashi", which is served after the course meal at a formal tea gathering called "chaji". The inside is decorated with the so-called "shochikubai": pine, bamboo, and plum blossom. These motives symbolize good luck, and they are often associated with the New Year in Japan.

Kōgo is a traditional ceremonial utensil used for storing incense. During the "chaji", the above-mentioned tea gathering where guests are served "kaiseki" (traditional Japanese course meal) then both koicha (thick tea) and usucha (thin tea). Placing incense in the "ro" (sunken hearth) during "sumitemae" (putting the charcoal for the fire) is part of the ceremony. This kneaded incense is stored in small containers and then put on the ash where the heat of the charcoal makes it pleasantly fragrant.
