Entry grade matcha in Marukyu-Koyama’s range suitable for making usucha
This is a calm, tranquil tea free of intense or roaring flavors and with mildly tart and slightly bitter notes. It has a nicely balanced flavor for the everydays.
The meaning of Aoarashi "青嵐" :
Marukyu Koyamaen named this tea 'Aoarashi', inspired by the slightly strong wind blowing through fresh green leaves during early summer. This name embodies the image of new greenery.

STEP 1) Put 2g (0.4 US tsp, 1 teaspoon or 2 chashaku scoop) matcha powder into a suitable tea bowl.
STEP 2) Pour 70 ml (2.4 fl oz) 80℃ (176°F) water over the matcha powder.
STEP 3) Whisk with a chasen (tea whisk) until foamy.
❖ Before Step 1, Warm your tea bowl. (Optional) Pour hot water in it, then discard all the water and wipe the bowl dry with a cloth. During whisking a cold tea bowl might cool the water down too quickly, which could turn the matcha bitter.
❖ Sift your matcha powder. (Strongly recommended) Matcha clots easily in hot water. To prevent this, sift the powder through a fine strainer.
❖ When your matcha is ready, drink it immediately, because as it cools down it might turn bitter. (Recommended)
❖ Matcha is best fresh. Consume it within a month after opening. (Strongly recommended)
EXTRA TIP
❖ Try iced matcha: pour the prepared matcha over ice.

Nice matcha, tastes very similar to Aoarashi but has a seaweed taste and smell a bit sharper than it.

I've tried many matcha from Sazen, and Aoarashi is still my every matcha (also my dad's). refreshing, floral, and sweet! I always feel creative after drinking this.

Nutty flavor and nice kick to start my mornings.

This stuff is great. For the price, it really can’t be beat. I’ve tried all the other matchas in this lineup including Wako, which is very good, but for the price I think this is the best option. I buy a bunch at a time and freeze them so it lasts me for months.

Intense arboreal scent whenever I open the tin. Upon tasting it, I am greeted with powerful floral notes that my nose reads as jasmine or hyacinth. There is pleasant vegetal finish of fresh Spring greens. Aoarashi is the ultimate everyday daily matcha for those who want something economical combined with great taste and aromatics.

Bought this for matcha latte. It's astringent and tart but lacks the depth and body of the Isuzu. If you like this flavor profile then go for the Unryu Ceremonial Grade Matcha Hokoen, it's a bit easier to digest. May come back and try this next year as things change seasonally.

Very Good!

I have bought this twice, this is good matcha for the price. Works well as usucha or koicha, versatile. Mild initial taste with good body, smooth. For someone who wants to make a good matcha latte everyday without worrying about the cost, this is an economical solution without sacrificing quality.

Pretty solid overall. Due to import/shipping, I personally prefer paying the difference for Wako for a more refined flavor, but this is hard to beat at the price point and still stands well in its own right. For my fellow yanks, despite being marketed as “entry-grade”, this is 10x better than anything being shilled as “premium” or “ceremonial” that you can find here. Definitely worth picking up as a daily matcha.

This tea is great for its price. It isn't as flavourful as Marukyu-Koyamaen's Wako matcha, but for nearly half the price it is pretty close. This is the best matcha I have found in this price range and will be using it daily. Thanks Sazen!

My first time trying authentic matcha directly from Japan, and it was so worth it! It tasted better than any matcha product I've tried before in the states or from Amazon. Even my husband who does not like the flavor of matcha was converted once we tried the high quality stuff we missed out on. The color looks so vibrant and vegetal. The texture was smooth and I could even taste the slight savory flavor some would call "umami" that gave it a pleasant 'kick'. It's saying a lot for a product that's considered entry-grade! I highly recommend this for people who want a true matcha experience from Japan if they really like matcha!

i love this tea--affordable and better than US brands of ceremonial!
Ji******, 2021-05-22 06:23 JST, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
I love matcha, I drink it alone or in a latte. The products available in the USA are normally very low quality or very expensive for a tiny amount. With the amount of matcha I go through, I needed a different product. This is such a lovely product and I have just placed my third order. It is cheaper for me to import this great tasting, quality matcha, than to purchase a bitter tasting, less quality matcha. I highly recommend this product and this company. Sazen has great prices, great products and AMAZING shipping. Somehow my orders show up at my house in days, I order late on Tuesday and it has arrived by Friday afternoon. No need to monitor my can volume because I know I can order last minute and receive this wonderful product in no time. Items are carefully packaged, arrive undamaged and a small free gift is included.

this Matcha is very good for at such a low price it costs as much as some culinary matcha but its very nice, bit too vegetal taste for me but will get this one again in the future but my favourite still remains Kinrin from Koyamaen.

This was my first experience with ceremonial matcha, after a disappointing experience years ago with cheap, low-grade culinary matcha. What a difference buying this from a quality brand in Japan makes! Knowing that this is only an entry-level in this grade, and yet is still so good, makes me very excited to try the others. I was thinking that this would be an expensive drink but I find these small cans last quite a long time. You can buy several to make shipping economical and store the excess in the freezer. I will definitely buy matcha from Sazen again.

I am impressed. This matcha is selling way lower than what we get locally here but the taste is far superior. No bitterness, smooth, good quality. Slightly astringent. It may not be as unami sweet n fragrant as the premium ones but for the price i paid, this is very good. Definitely drinking this on its own. Not gg to ruin it with milk. If this is the quality of the entry level for this brand, i wonder how good will the rest taste.

Without question this is the best bang for the buck matcha being made. It out performs matcha from other companies that cost 2 or 3 times as much. It's been my daily go to for many years. I make mine with water that is not very hot and it comes out tasting like higher end matcha than it is. The price is fantastic compared to what it sells for in the U.S.

The Marukyu Koyamaen house deserves all my recognition. I have tasted their best products and also the most basic ones, like this rich starter matcha. Excellent product at a very reasonable price for those who want to start on the beautiful Matcha trail.

Great value for the price. It is a nice ceremonial matcha with a vegetal and balanced flavour. Good choice for everyday use.
Ko******, 2018-03-29 15:52 JST, THAILAND
This is Matcha for drinking everyday better than culinary grade and less bitter taste and strong tea aroma.

I'm new to matcha and I found this much more delicious compared to the matcha sold in our country around the same price. Good value for money!

As a beginner, this was my introduction tea. I drank it first time, when I came back from Japan, and I completely fell in love. Matcha tea I knew before were those bought in Europe. I never like matcha, because it did not seem anything special. Until I drank this matcha. What a difference. And still, it is not any super high quality tea. It has a very nice flavour, although you can feel a little bit bitterness. Every time I make an order, I am trying to up the tea quality I choose, and learn to be able tell the difference between them. But I still get this tea with my each order.
Gá******, 2016-04-05 22:11 JST, HUNGARY
This tea is the lowest of the ten principal matcha from Marukyu-Koyamaen and so it is the cheapest one. However for a very reasonable price you can enjoy a fantastic tea with fresh, a little bit bitter (but not unpleasant) taste. If you have the possibility to bing the water to a boil in an unglazed cast iron teapot (tetsubin or kama), with that water you can prepare an even better matcha without bitterness. You can also use this tea in cooking.

This is my review for the Shohaku, not the Aoarashi, pls forgive my clumsiness. Aoarashi is a great lovely matcha for beginners
