Original Sencha blend from Horii Shichimeien, Kyoto
One of the most popular teas from the Sencha line of Horii Shichimeien, a traditional tea producer based in Uji, right across the Agata Shinto shrine.
In flavor, fragrance, and infusion this sencha is very balanced. It is made of tea leaves from Minami Yamashiro, a village in the Southern part of Kyoto prefecture.
Please note, that Sazen Tea does not keep this product in stock. We get all matcha and tea powder fresh from the factories only after an order is placed for it on our website, and this process can take a few days. Thank you for your patience!

Might be a bit of an unpopular opinion - but I'm not that big a fan of it. If you're looking for a mild and basic sencha, then this might be the one for you; there's almost no bitterness, and there's a very gentle taste that reminds me of steamed cabbage; that's about it. I can understand how someone might like this, especially if you're new to sencha or looking for something on a budget. But, Horii Shichimeien's "Kaori no Kaze" has everything this one has, but dialed up a notch. Agata no Mori doesn't do anything WRONG; but there's nothing in this that I'd say is great, either. It's just not interesting to me, and it's not something I'd reach for brewing compared to other sencha in a similar price point.

Lovely mild flavor, well balanced tea. I've been enjoying it for my first tea in the morning, using 8g/200ml at 160°F and steeped for 60 seconds.

A bit disappointing. It's a mild and delicate flavour but it does not scream "I am complex!!!". It's rather simple and the aftertaste is not as long lasting as similarly priced senchas. It's alright if brewed a bit harder than the recommended. I use just over 75C water and 4.5/100ml for 60sec which gives a result which is more full. The highlight of this tea is the mouthfeel, it's dense and smooth. There are notes of smooth strawberries and sweet hay as well as cooked buttery vegetables. Kind of similar to Sazens competetive grade blend, which I think achieved these results better. It seems to me that the blend strives for simplicity, smoothness and comfort but at the cost of complexcity and a long lasting aftertaste.

Fantastic sencha, light green coloured tea, slight grassy smell. Light taste, slight bitter notes and with hints of seaweed and grass. A bit of umami. Low astringency, refreshing.

very sweet and balanced earthy brew. pictured after its fourth brew.

This tea makes an exceptionally delicious cold brew! Cold brewing in my experience tends to mute some of the brighter notes of tea, but this tea's cold brew is fragrant and complex

The description of this tea which has been given can be summed up to one main word: balance. And for me, that balance of flavors makes it the most relaxing and calming sencha I have tried. Where Sencha Seiga will invigorate your nose immediately with powerful aromatics, this brew keeps some considerate distance from you. The steamed vegetable flavor is gentle, the fresh grass in harmony with the hints of flowers. This tea would be suited for thinking about a subject at length which you don't want to become overly passionate about, instead to keep your head to give the best chance of a thorough understanding.

This was one of the best value senchas i had, first the Horii Shichimeien packaging has beautiful presentation, this was the first sencha i tried from them and then i had their higher end Shuppin Sencha Hana Jirushi. When you buy sencha in this price range, sometimes you get weak taste, but this one was not weak at all but quite rich in flavour with slightly more astringency than the Shuppin Sencha which is a bit more refined. This is not a bitter sencha, but it has a bit of astringecy which in combination with the clear liquid makes it fresh tasting. The mental effects are important and this one delivers focus and clarity. Great stuff and i will investigate this producer more because i like their stuff ;)

Delicious well balanced sencha, very fresh with notes of edamame and flowers, and just enough astringency for a nice quench. Would reccomend for a summer iced brew!
