Lu An Gua Pian

2024 Green Tea from Anhui Province, China

Lu An Gua Pian Lu An Gua Pian Lu An Gua Pian
New

While most premium green teas come from the first spring sprouts of tea trees, Lu An Gua Pian stands out as a unique and rare variety. It's crafted solely from the leaves, which are shaped like watermelon seeds, hence its name, "Gua Pian," which means melon seed.

This tea was grown in the city of Lu'an, in Anhui Prefecture. Bian Fu Dong (Bat Cave) located in Qi Yun is famous for its high-quality teas.

Usually harvested during Grain Rains (around April 20th) when the leaves reach an optimal size, this particular tea was harvested in late March.

Lu An Gua Pian is pan-fried and dried over charcoal fire. Due to the tea leaves retaining significant moisture post-roasting, they undergo three rounds of drying, with particular attention paid to the final stage, where a higher temperature is applied. This meticulous process yields exceptionally aromatic tea leaves.

STEP 1) Warm your teapot.
STEP 2) Fill your pot with tea leaves in a 3 g / 150 ml ratio, pour hot (90°C) water on them, and brew for 60 seconds.
STEP 3) Serve. Pour the tea into a pitcher, and then into cups.
STEP 4) Brew again.

❖ For the second infusion, steep it for about 5⎻10 seconds. For every other infusion after that increase the steeping time.
❖ Make sure to open the lid of the teapot between infusions, to prevent the leaves from cooking.
❖ This is how we recommend brewing this tea, but we all have our preferences, so try experimenting to find the way you like it the most.
