Unlike many hot Western teas, traditional, fine Japanese teas are properly savored under 100 degrees--all the better to prevent bitterness and enjoy the time-honored flavors. With the yuzamashi, a unique cooling pot used during Japanese tea ceremonies, the amount of hot water being poured into kyusu or hōhin teapots can be adjusted to perfection, ensuring that only the subtlest flavors touch the tongue. Created through a painstaking casting process, this yuzamashi has an expertly-crafted spout and a handle lacking in most basic cooling pots, making it very easy to pour. The yuzamashi helps to regulate both water temperature and flavor.

The most suitable temperature is 40-60 degrees for Gyokuro, and 70-80 degrees for rich Sencha. Connoisseurs can attain an ideal cup in just three simple steps. First, pour hot water into a yunomi teacup and measure the necessary amount. Then, pour into the Kyusu (handless teapot). Finally, pour into the yuzamashi and wait for the perfect temperature. The end result is a cup of tea that, being both cool and expertly balanced, is completely satisfying from the first to the final sip.

Handling precautions

Initiation:
Before first use, rinse it with hot water, then let it dry completely!

Usage:
Avoid placing it on hot surfaces, like stove, and never use in microwave or oven.

Cleaning:
If you prefer to avoid tea stains, rinse the pitcher well after every use. It is better to avoid dishwashing liquid, but you can use gentle, organic soap to clean your pitcher. Never use bleach!

Storage:
After use, always let it dry completely, for if stored away while still wet, it might develop an unpleasant smell or mold.
