Ceramic tea holder by Shinichi Fuchinogami from Gozen kiln
Handmade by Shinichi Fuchinogami from the Gozen kiln.
Glazed ceramic tea tool to display tea leaves before brewing. The tea holder has yōhen finish. Yōhen in Japanese means "changed by the flame". When the ceramic is fired, the heat fluctuates in the kiln, which results in color changes on the surface. This makes every piece unique with the impression of randomness, which has both aesthetic and philosophical appeal to the Japanese.
Designed by Mr. Morooka, the highest grade of Chinese tea specialist (高級茶藝技師) qualified by China.
This tool is used both in Japanese and Chinese tea ceremony to present and admire the tea leaves before the tea is prepared.
Place of origin: Yame city, Fukuoka prefecture, Japan

I wanted a darker holder. It matches my darker teaware (though looks good in any company) and seems more relaxed than the lighter, glazed stuff. I use it daily, it's well-made, but it's a very simple item that I feel should cost a bit less.
