Exclusive tea bowl from the gallery of master Kamata
An exquisite tea bowl with tenmoku glaze from master Kamata Kōji. Master Kamata is recognized as a leading artist in Yōhen Tenmoku. Through his meticulous exploration of the challenging interplay between flames, clay, and glaze, he developed his own unique and exceptional tenmoku style. Kamata Kōji has been awarded the prestigious title of Living National Treasure in Japan, recognizing him as a keeper of important intangible cultural heritage.
Yōhen Shikō Tenmoku glaze is one of the most challenging glazes to master, but the result is a mesmerizing display of colors that shifts and glows with the changing light.
Yuteki Tenmoku glaze got its name from a remote Chinese temple it was first used, on the Tianmu (Tenmoku in Japanese and Heaven's Eye in English) Mountain. From the 13th century, monks in this temple drank their tea from tea bowls glazed with a special technique called yuteki (literally meaning “oil drop”). Tenmoku glazes can range in color and pattern, which makes every glazed piece unique with the impression of randomness, which has both aesthetic and philosophical appeal to the Japanese.
