The Seikanji kiln was established by Master Kikujiro in the early Meiji Era, and it is currently led by Maryu Sugita, the 4th generation of the founder family.

Chrysanthemum also represents nobility and the imperial family, which even got the name the 'Chrysanthemum Throne'. According to Buddhist teachings one essential part of meditation is the scent of a flower, and as chrysanthemum has a mild, sweet fragrance, it has also become a common offering on Buddhist altars.
